Description
A small Egyptian cosmetic vessel made of alabaster calcite with an ovoid body
It has a narrow, rounded base, a short neck and a wide, open mouth with a thickened rim. The translucent, honey-beige stone displays a network of crystallisations and fine natural veins. The interior is deeply hollowed out, with tool marks. There are chips and flaking along the rim, minor imperfections at the base, and otherwise, it is in good condition with a uniform patina. Egypt. Old-Middle Kingdom. 3rd–2nd millennium BC. Height 17 cm × diameter 11.5 cm. Lot held in an international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. An export licence from the country of origin may be required.
