Description
Small Egyptian cosmetic vessel made of alabaster calcite with side handles
A truncated conical vessel, slightly curved and resting on a narrow, rounded base, with an open neck ending in a wide, finely polished, rounded lip. Two small lateral handles on perforated tenons allowed for suspension or the attachment of a lid. Translucent, cream-coloured stone with slight honey-brown areas. Deeply hollowed interior, retaining tool marks. Minor chipping on the rim and handles; otherwise, in good condition with a uniform patina. Egypt. Old-Middle Kingdom, 3rd–2nd millennium BC. Height 16.5 cm × diameter 9.5 cm. Lot held in an international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. An export licence from the country of origin may be required.
