Description
Exceptional Imperial Chinese or Vietnamese Qing-dynasty brush holder, with stand Scholarly object. A cylindrical vessel with thick walls, a deep chocolate-brown patina, and highly visible natural grain revealing dense, aged wood. It rests on a base carved from the same piece, formed by two reclining shi lions, rendered with vigour and naturalism, featuring powerful musculature, deeply incised manes, and half-open mouths in a protective expression. These lions, symbols of power, vigilance and protection, form an architectural support of great technical mastery. A combination of a wooden bitong and a carved zoomorphic foot. China. Qing Dynasty, late 19th century. Diameter 18 cm x Height 27 cm. Base 38 cm. Lot held in an international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. An export licence from the country of origin may be required.
