Description
Jerusalem cross pendant in silver, 20th century
Sterling silver (925), crafted using a goldsmithing technique with filigree work and applied reliefs. Measures 5.0 x 3.5 cm; weight 12 g. This pendant cross is of the type known as the Jerusalem Cross or Crusader's Cross, consisting of a central cross with flared arms and four smaller crosses arranged around it, a configuration of profound heraldic and devotional symbolism. The surface is richly worked with filigree, granulation, and small reliefs that add volume, texture, and visual complexity, demonstrating meticulous craftsmanship. The obverse features a balanced and symmetrical composition, with detailed decoration that enhances the ornamental and symbolic character of the piece. The plain reverse retains the hallmarks and stamps that certify the sterling silver (925) and its origin in Mexico. This is a pendant of solid presence and remarkable weight, conceived both as a personal jewel and as an object of religious significance, linked to traditions of Christian brotherhoods and fraternities associated with the iconography of the wounds of Christ.
