Important collection of 10 authentic colonial silver ex-votos. Peru, 17th-18th century. Important collection of 10 authentic colonial silver ex-votos. Peru, 17th-18th century. Collection of ten silver ex-votos worked in repoussé and cut sheet silver, together with one smaller example. The pieces feature the characteristic votive heart iconography, with varied outlines and decoration of rays, flames, scrolls, volutes and stylized vegetal motifs. Some retain textile ribbons for suspension, reflecting their devotional use. The diversity of designs shows the handcrafted production of viceregal workshops and the widespread use of these objects of popular piety in colonial Peru.
