Mexican school of the 18th century, Allegory of the Holy Communion, surroundings of Francisco Antonio Vallejo (1722-1785), colonial school of Novohiapana of the 18th century
Oil on canvas, dimensions: 78 x 59 cm, dimensions with frame: 87 x 68 cm. In the present composition we distinguish, in the central plane, a large Holy Monstrance next to a bunch of grapes as an allegory of the Christian Communion, all surrounded by angels, while, on the sides, we distinguish Saint Lawrence, and Saint Sebastian, saviors of sinful souls and only martyrs with the ability to intercede to take souls out of purgatory, in the lower left and right corners respectively, the viewer can distinguish two souls in purgatory being burned by the flames observing the composition, in reference to the power of Communion and the Body of Christ as symbols of redemption from sins. Francisco Antonio Vallejo (1722-1785) He worked for more than 30 years. His main works are located in the Temple of Teaching in Mexico City; the sacristy of the chapel of the College of San Ildefonso; and the large series of the Life of Saint Elias in the Convent of Carmen in San Luis Potosí.
