Description
ITALIAN SCHOOL 16TH-17TH CENTURY - Virgin in Glory and Vision of Saint John
Painted stone. Dimensions: 20 x 16 cm. Pair of painted plaques depicting, on one side, the Virgin and Child in glory, surrounded by kneeling angels and saints, and on the other, the vision of Saint John the Evangelist, writing his Gospel accompanied by his eagle before the celestial apparition of the Virgin on the island of Patmos. Based on their format, style, and devotional purpose, these works probably originally formed part of a small altarpiece. Italian work from the Late Mannerist period, dated between the late 16th and early 17th centuries. They show visible traces of old restorations and repairs. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
