Christ Ecce Homo with the Elements of the Passion, José Joaquín Magón, 18th century Mexican colonial school, New Spain, signed and dated 1771 Mexican painter active in Puebla, New Spain, during the 18th century, perhaps the most famous of his time. It is known that he was born in Puebla and that he cultivated both poetry and painting. The cathedral of his hometown preserves several of his works: some paintings in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows, a Patronage of Our Lady in the sacristy, which has been attributed to Berrueco but is more in the style of Magón. The sacristy of the Sanctuary of Ocotlán, in Tlaxcala, contains the following canvases with scenes from the Passion: Holy Supper from 1754, Arrest, Crowning with Thorns, Street of Bitterness, and Calvary. In the Convent of La Merced, in Atlixco, there is a large painting of the Patronage of Our Lady of Mercy from 1763. In the State College in Puebla, there is a Holy Pulquería from 1757; In the parish of La Cruz, a Saint John of Nepomuk. Measurements: 75 x 50 cm
