Description
Circular relief with a courtly couple, historicist school, 19th century Terracotta relief. Measures 23 x 23 cm; with frame 35 x 35 cm. Circular composition with a pair of standing figures in a schematic vegetal setting. The male figure, wearing a hat and short tunic, carries a sword at his waist and holds the hand of the female figure, who wears a long tunic. Both are framed by trees with slender trunks and stylized canopies that close the scene on either side, reinforcing the narrative and decorative nature of the relief. The circular frame and the frontal arrangement of the figures emphasise the medal-like character of the piece.
