Description
Monumental Venus in Carrara Marble - Italy, late 19th century - 20th century. Marble carved with elegance and sensitivity. Dimensions: 200 x 65 cm. The sculpture represents a standing female figure, dressed in a peplos with wide folds that falls gently to her bare feet, conveying a sense of serenity and balance. The young woman delicately holds a bouquet of flowers in her lap, an element that accentuates her symbolic association with fertility, nature, or the seasons, possibly as an allegory of Spring or a nymph of the Classical world. Her oval face, with a melancholic expression and lowered gaze, is framed by a Hellenistic-inspired hairstyle composed of wavy locks gathered in a side bun. The marble surface reveals fine modeling in the textures of the dress and the anatomical volumes, achieving a harmony between realism and idealization. Despite its outdoor exposure, the work retains its formal integrity and expressive power. This piece is part of the Italian sculptural tradition of the early 20th century, deeply influenced by the neoclassical taste and decorative eclecticism of the period, which revived antique models for ornamental purposes. The figure thus becomes a synthesis between the classical canon and modern sensibility, reaffirming its value as a sculptural piece of great delicacy and aesthetic presence.
