Description
Sculpture of a reclining lion. European school. 20th century. Hollow cast bronze. Measures 45 x 92 x 47 cm. Zoomorphic sculpture of a reclining lion in a vigilant pose, with its head erect and mouth slightly open, revealing its teeth, which accentuates an expression of restrained strength and nobility. The body rests naturally on its outstretched forelegs and drawn-up hind legs, while the mane, rendered with fluid and rhythmic modeling, adds dynamism and textural richness to the whole. The sculptor has skillfully captured the muscular tension and majestic character of the animal through a balanced contrast between polished surfaces and areas of greater plastic vibrancy. The dark patina reinforces the formal depth and links the work to the tradition of European decorative sculpture of naturalistic inspiration, where the symbolism of the lion as an emblem of power and protection acquires a marked visual impact.
