Estimate €2,750 - €4,500
Description
The Seated Boy. Spanish School. 18th Century Polychrome wood carving. Measures 62 x 47 x 32 cm. This freestanding sculpture depicts a child seated on a naturalistic base. The nude body is modeled with soft volumes and a carefully studied child's anatomy that conveys intimacy and tenderness. The face, with its serene and slightly absorbed expression, is enriched with delicate chromatic nuances on the cheeks and lips, while the hair is rendered in carefully executed, wavy strands. The polychromy, applied with subtlety, reinforces the naturalism of the piece and interacts with the dark-toned base, creating an effective visual contrast. The work fully embodies 18th-century devotional sculpture, in which late Baroque sensibility evolves toward a gentler and more emotive language, intended to foster intimate devotion through the humanity of the sacred figure.
