Estimate €2,500 - €4,000
Description
Stone figurehead or vault key Vicenza, Italy, 19th century Carved Vicenza stone. Dimensions: 40 x 43 x 35 cm. A unique sculptural element conceived as a mascaron or keystone, representing a fantastical or grotesque face of strong expressiveness, within an ornamental tradition rooted in architecture in which this type of piece played not only a decorative role, but also a symbolic and apotropaic one, associated with the protection of the building against negative influences. The work stands out for the quality of the carving, the solidity of its volumes, and the beautiful patina of the marble, which accentuates its sculptural presence. Of generous dimensions and balanced proportions, it is especially suitable as a decorative wall element, where its visual impact and singular character will not go unnoticed. It is presented in very good condition, intact. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-community shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
