Description
Marble mask with the head of Neptune, Italy, probably 19th century Carved marble. Dimensions: 90 x 85 x 13 cm. Approximate weight: 100/150 kg. A masterful sculptural mask representing the face of Neptune, accompanied at the bottom by two dolphins, within a composition of great decorative force and pronounced mythological character. Originating from Venice and a private collection, the piece stands out for the extraordinary quality of its carving, the meticulous precision of its details, and the imposing presence of the whole, conceived both as a wall ornament and as a fountain spout. The nature of the marble used is particularly unique, traditionally described as a sulfur-rich stone with striking veining and a beautiful patina, known in ancient times for its particular behaviour during carving. The piece possesses remarkable sculptural and ornamental power, making it a lot of special rarity and appeal. It is presented in very good condition and intact. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
