Description
Figurehead or fountain mouth with faun and bunch of grapes, Italy, 19th century Carved Asiago white marble. Dimensions: 40 x 35 x 18 cm. A unique sculptural element in the architectural tradition, depicting a faun's face with a bunch of grapes. Conceived as an ornamental mask, it can also be used as a fountain spout thanks to the opening. Originating from Venice and a private collection, the piece is remarkable for the expressive power of its composition, the extraordinary quality of its carving, and the meticulous definition of its features, especially visible in the mouth, eyes, beard, and vegetal elements, all rendered with great plastic vibrancy. Part of a series of mythological and mystical themes, this piece possesses significant decorative and sculptural value, enhanced by the nobility of the marble and its balanced format, particularly suitable for wall mounting. It is presented in very good condition and intact. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
