Description
1st Century AD Roman Bronze Figure of Mercury - Early Roman Empire
Former Ramos collection. This bronze figure represents the god Mercury, one of the most prominent deities of the Roman pantheon, associated with commerce, travel, and communication. Measuring 9 cm high, 4.5 cm wide, and 2.7 cm deep, the sculpture shows the god in a classical posture: standing, nude, with a cloak draped over one of his shoulders, and bearing attributes associated with his iconography. On his head, we can see the characteristic wings of the petasus, a symbol of speed and divine connection.
