Description
Exceptional Egyptian Vulture Fragment in stone - Ancient Egyptian - PTOLEMMAIC PERIOD (332 - 30 BC) (332 - 30 BC) Ptolemaic Period (332 - 30 BC). 8.7 x 8.1 x 1.2 cm. Provenance: Howard Nowes, New York, later Barbagelata Collection. The vulture is depicted with meticulous carving of the feathers, differentiating the rounded coverts from the long, stylized flight feathers, demonstrating the sculptor's skill in reproducing the animal realistically. The head, although eroded, retains the curved profile characteristic of this carrion bird. Its inclined posture and the careful arrangement of the plumage suggest a detailed study of animal anatomy.
