Description
Six-drawer walnut refectory table. Spanish School. Late 16th - early 17th century.
Carved walnut wood. Dimensions: 67 x 98 x 74 cm. Transitional refectory table between the late 16th and early 17th centuries, with six drawers in the front decorated with geometric carvings and plant motifs. The wide tabletop and reinforced structure responded to the needs of collective use in convents and monasteries, where this type of furniture was essential. The solidity of its profile-cut legs, joined by jambs, reinforces its functionality. Its sober yet expressive carving places this table as a paradigmatic example of Castilian convent furniture on the threshold between the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
