Description
Set of 11 traditional locks from the Bamana and Dogon peoples, Mali, 20th century Carved wood. Dimensions: 62 x 45 x 4 cm. This collection comprises eleven traditional locks from the Bamana and Dogon peoples, conceived as both functional and symbolic elements within the domestic and ritual spheres of West Africa. These pieces were used to protect granaries, dwellings, or spaces of special significance, and their sculptural decoration frequently incorporated values linked to protection, fertility, authority, and social status. Each piece exhibits formal variations and carved motifs characteristic of its respective cultural context, giving the collection considerable ethnographic and aesthetic interest as a testament to the expressive richness of African utilitarian art. Sold as a set of 11 pieces. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
