Estimate €1,500 - €2,000
Description
Small memento mori head, Europe, 19th century Carved wood. Dimensions: 14 x 8 x 8 cm. A small sculpture with strong symbolic content, conceived according to the traditional iconography of memento mori, here resolved by a striking head split in two: one half in the form of a skull and the other a bearded male face. This visual duality eloquently underscores the contrast between life and death, youth and corruption, in an image of moral meditation intended to remind us of the fleeting nature of existence. The piece, small in size but with great expressive intensity, stands out for the simplicity of its modeling and the conceptual effectiveness of its design, which makes it suitable for both devotional objects and cabinet or curio pieces. Mounted on a base. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
