Description
Exceptional Imperial Chinese or Vietnamese Qing brush holder, with stand
Scholarly object. Cylindrical vessel with thick walls, a deep chocolate-brown patina, and highly visible natural grain revealing dense, aged wood. It rests on a base carved from the same piece, formed by two reclining shi lions, rendered with vigour and naturalism, powerful musculature, deeply incised hands, and half-open mouths in a protective expression. These lions, symbols of power, vigilance, and protection, form an architectural support of great technical mastery. Combination of a wooden bitong and a carved zoomorphic foot. China. Qing Dynasty, late 19th century. Diameter 18 cm x Height 27 cm. Base 38 cm. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. Export permit from the country of origin may be required.
