Description
Calcite-alabaster vase carved from a single block, in the shape of a chalice.
With a wide, everted mouth, a slightly open belly atop a tall, truncated conical foot ending in a flared base. Beautiful honey-coloured patina and white veining. The stone exhibits marked honey-ochre and cream veining, a polished exterior, and a deep, hollow interior, probably intended for perfumed oils or libations. Egypt. New Kingdom. 18th Dynasty. Visible cracks and small, old chips on the rim, with a large crack extending from the inner edge, but the overall structure is stable. Slight wear and surface pitting consistent with long burial. Restoration of the rim opening, with no missing pieces. Height 23 cm x diameter 14 cm. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. Export permit from the country of origin may be required.
