Description
Translucent calcite alabaster cup carved from a single block.
Open, truncated cone-shaped vessel with a wide, scalloped rim, resting on a double-torus annular foot and a circular base. The translucent ochre stone displays a warm veining typical of quarries in the Eastern Desert, polished on the exterior and hollowed out on the interior in the shape of a shallow bowl. This form is characteristic of ritual or libation cups from the New Kingdom, 18th-19th Dynasties, ca. 1550-1200 BC, evoking the lotus-shaped cups or chalices used in offerings to the gods or at the royal table. It is intact, with no major visible cracks; the surface is smooth with a natural burial patina, fine craquelure, and localized pitting, consistent with the proposed age. Height 15 cm x diameter 13.5 cm. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. Export permit from the country of origin may be required.
