Description
Pair of anthropomorphic hardwood statues
Carved from a single piece of wood, these figures depict a man and a woman standing frontally, with their arms flexed and hands open before their torsos. Their faces are stylized, with large, round, incised eyes, prominent noses, and discreet mouths. The oval heads appear disproportionately large compared to the bodies, and the anatomical details-breasts in the woman and male genitalia in the man-are clearly indicated with great restraint. The wood's surface displays a dark patina, marked by use and the passage of time, a testament to antiquity and traditional practices. The archaic style and robust proportions suggest a tribal origin, where such figures served as guardians, protectors of the home, or symbols of fertility. Indonesia. Irian Jaya. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. Export permit from the country of origin may be required.
