Bust of a female deity, Devata, Apsara or Uma
Remains of a tall torso, depicted nude, with a full breast modelled with naturalism and sensuality according to the Khmer ideal of divine femininity. A small fragment of a sculpted necklace is visible around the neck, the shoulders are broad and flat, and tool marks are present on the sides and back. The surface shows patina, wear, and old chipping, with a soft polish on the reliefs. Cambodia. Khmer, Classic Angkorian period, Baphuon style. 11th to 13th centuries. Gray sandstone. 23 x 15 cm.
