Description
Ornamental or ritual jade leaf, China. Shang Dynasty
Ornamental or ritual leaf, funerary offering carved from brown nephrite jade with golden highlights, with an ancient patina, traces of natural alteration, silt, and excavation patina consistent with long burial. The upper part is cut into scalloped teeth, while the lower part is ovoid and perforated with a small suspension hole, suggesting use as a funerary ornament. The engraved decoration, typical of the Shang period, consists of geometric scrolls and spirals made with abrasive. Archaic jade. China. Shang Dynasty. 1600-1046 BCE. 7 x 2.7 cm. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. Export permit from the country of origin may be required.
