Description
Mercury tray. Milan, Fornasetti Factory, circa 1950.
Dimensions: height 1.7 cm; cm 13.8x10.6. Polychrome ceramic, with a wide brim, a short frill, and a wide base. Reverse with a ring support. Decoration on the rim with harpies and fantastic animals on an ivory background. In the recess, a scene from antiquity, probably of King Midas, within a landscape with figures, satyrs, and buildings. Produced in the Metauro area, with remains of an underglaze manganese inscription on the reverse. Condition: Minimal shrinkage of the glaze during firing.
