Art Nouveau inkwell, European School, circa 1900 Gilt bronze. Measures 14 x 39 x 20 cm. This inkwell desk is conceived as a richly ornamented horizontal unit, with two hinged circular receptacles and a central handle with a cut-out profile. The decoration is inspired by Renaissance motifs reinterpreted in a historicist style, highlighting scrolls, cartouches, and mouldings of meticulous execution. The bronze work reveals a solid and detailed craftsmanship, although it is missing one leg, a circumstance that does not detract from the overall aesthetic.
