Description
Jean LACHAUD (1889-1952) - Manufacture HB Quimper
Part of a dinner service
In polychrome earthenware with hunting decoration
Comprising a salad bowl, nine dinner plates and six soup plates
Signed HB Quimper J. Lachaud
A ceramist active in the first half of the 20th century, Jean Lachaud was part of the revival of French decorative arts between the wars. Close to the Art Deco aesthetic, he developed a decorative language based on stylised forms and clear compositions.
He worked with the HB-Henriot factory in Quimper, for whom he designed earthenware and stoneware models for decorative production. His work became part of the manufactory's repertoire, alongside other artists involved in modernising Quimper's ceramic language.
His creations are characterised by a sober, structured style, reflecting the influence of modernist currents, while remaining suited to small-scale production.
