Born in Rennes, Louis Henri Nicot trained at the Beaux-Arts in Rennes and then Paris. After starting out as an ornamental sculptor, he began teaching at the École des arts appliqués à l'industrie in 1922.
His work soon moved away from academicism and drew its inspiration from Brittany. From 1923, thanks to his friend Mathurin Méheut, he began a major collaboration with the Henriot earthenware factory in Quimper, for which he created numerous models that have become emblematic of Breton art. At the same time, he produced a number of war memorials throughout Brittany.
Today, Louis Henri Nicot remains one of the leading figures in Breton ceramics, thanks in particular to works such as Les Trois Commères, Le Vœu du marin, La Vieille fumeuse de pipe, Evangéline and La Vieille Paimpolaise.
