Born in Nantes in 1904, Jorj (Georges) Robin was the youngest of the founding members of the Seiz Breur movement. In 1922, he entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris with the ambition of becoming a sculptor. However, his encounter with René-Yves Creston, Suzanne Candré and Jeanne Malivel proved to be a determining factor, providing a lasting direction for his artistic and cultural commitment. This period coincided with a vast movement across Europe, from Finland to Catalonia, to assert regional and national identities.
In 1925, along with the Seiz Breur, he took part in the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. His work there already revealed a personal vision of Brittany and hinted at the talent of a promising artist. Trained as a sculptor, he also developed a remarkable body of work as an illustrator, characterised by a refined, resolutely modern style.
His taste for artistic experimentation is particularly evident in his collaboration with the HB-Henriot earthenware factory. There, he created landmark works featuring women, such as Bigoudène assise and Paludière à la bêche. These ceramics are distinguished by their expressive power, formal elegance and sober treatment.
