Description
Jules Charles LE BOZEC (1898-1973) - Manufacture HB Quimper The Paimpol potato harvester Large polychrome earthenware subject Signed Le Bozec on the back of the terrace and on the front HB Quimper Height 45 cm high Jules-Charles Le Bozec (1898-1973) A Breton sculptor trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes and then in Paris in Jean Boucher's studio, Jules-Charles Le Bozec was part of the Breton regionalist movement between the wars, notably within the Seiz Breur group. A major artist of monumental and religious sculpture in Brittany, he also developed an important collaboration with the HB-Henriot factory in Quimper from the 1930s onwards. His works were transposed into earthenware, helping to spread his sculptural repertoire far and wide. His models published by HB, such as La Terre, La Femme à la bêche, Méditation and Jeune fille sous l'averse, reflect a world deeply rooted in rural Brittany and the peasantry. They are distinguished by a strong quality of modelling and an expressive synthesis of forms, characteristic of his sculptural style. Expert : Philippe JAMAULT
