Description
Virgin and Child, Spanish School, 19th–20th centuries Oil on canvas. A depiction of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child, both united by an expression of affection and contemplation. The Child carries a bunch of grapes, a Eucharistic symbol associated with sacrifice and redemption, whilst the Virgin protects him with a wide blue mantle that gives structure to the composition. The faces, with their large eyes and delicate chromatic nuances, are reminiscent of popular Renaissance and Baroque-inspired models prevalent between the 19th and 20th centuries. The work stands out for its devotional character, the tenderness of the expressions, and the formal simplicity that encourages spiritual contemplation. Dimensions: 69 x 55 cm; frame 79 x 65 cm.
