Description
Landscape composition. Spanish school. 20th century. – José Antonio Serna Ramos (1927, Alicante – 2011, Valencia)
Oil on cardboard. An abstract landscape composition achieved through energetic, gestural brushstrokes that structure the scene with large splashes of colour. The sky is rendered in a vibrant range of blues, traversed by soft white clouds that heighten the dynamism of the atmosphere. In the lower section, a group of fields and hills is depicted in shades of ochre, red, green and orange, creating intense visual contrasts. The paint, applied with vigorous impasto, emphasises the emotional element of the work. Signed ‘Serna Ramos’ in the lower right-hand corner, the visual language evokes contemporary Expressionist movements, which focused on the subjective representation of the landscape and the exploration of colour as an autonomous expressive medium. This piece forms part of the most recent output of 21st-century Spanish painting, bringing an intuitive and free perspective to the landscape tradition. Dimensions: 38 x 55 cm
