Description
Featured Lot – Important Italian Still Life – Mario da Nuzzi, Mario Nuzzi (Rome, 1603–Rome, 1673)
Oil on canvas. Dimensions 153 x 127 cm. A richly decorated ornamental composition centred around a marble fountain, enlivened by a child figure and a sumptuous vase overflowing with flowers. Tulips, roses, carnations, anemones and numerous botanical species unfold in a vibrant cascade of colour, accompanied by exotic birds with vivid plumage that lend dynamism and a distinctly courtly character to the scene. The combination of sculptural, plant and animal elements creates a refined visual discourse on abundance, ephemeral beauty and the harmony of nature. The work belongs to the Italian Baroque tradition of monumental still lifes and idealised gardens, standing out for its technical virtuosity and visual impact.
