Description
Pair of vases, from the circle of Tomás Yepes, Valencian School, 17th century Oil on canvas. Each painting measures 35 x 25 cm. A pair of still lifes depicting floral arrangements in small vases on shelves, set against dark backgrounds that enhance the decorative effect and the rich colours of the flowers. The compositions combine different species in a delicate formal balance, with open petals, buds and leaves carefully rendered with precise and meticulous brushstrokes. The striking contrast between the darkness of the surroundings and the luminosity of the plant motifs reflects the conventions established by 17th-century Spanish still-life painting. The works show clear affinities with the circle of Tomás Yepes, one of the great Valencian specialists in floral arrangements, demonstrating a taste for naturalistic observation, compositional elegance and refined decorative quality. The series stands out for its visual appeal and its significance within the Baroque tradition of floral still life.
