Description
Pair of Chinese vases with dragons. Chinese School. 19th century.
Patinated bronze. A pair of Chinese Hu-shaped vases, richly decorated with high-relief motifs of ascending dragons, symbols of power, strength and imperial protection. The surface features an incised decoration of geometric lattices and floral bands that wrap around the lower and middle sections of each vase, accentuating the verticality of the serpentine figures. The meticulously sculpted dragons cling dynamically to the body of the vessel, displaying undulating bodies and open jaws that emphasise their mythological energy. The craftsmanship reveals a mastery of volume and an expressiveness rooted in symbolism associated with Chinese ritual art, particularly that of the late Qing Dynasty. More than mere decorative elements, these pieces evoke the spiritual dimension of the dragon in the Eastern cultural imagination. Dimensions: 26 × 16 × 16 cm.
