Description
Saint Anthony of Padua, Spanish Baroque School, 18th century
Polychrome and gilded wood carving. Dimensions: 38 x 17 x 12 cm. Depiction of Saint Anthony of Padua in a Franciscan habit, facing the viewer, intended for private devotion. The saint is shown with the characteristic monastic tonsure and vestments embellished with gilded plant and geometric motifs. The composition conveys spiritual contemplation through the simplicity of the gesture and the serenity of the face. The surface retains interesting traces of polychromy and ornamental decoration, allowing us to appreciate the quality of the original work. The modelling of the forms and the expressive restraint are linked to the Spanish Baroque tradition aimed at spreading Franciscan spirituality. Its significance lies both in the craftsmanship of the carving and in its value as a testament to popular religious sculpture of the 18th century. Dimensions: 38 x 17 cm.
