Description
Set of three frames with cherub heads, Italian Baroque School, 18th century
Carved, polychromed and gilded wood. The largest measures 43 x 50 cm, and the two smaller ones 33 x 21 cm. This set comprises three corbels with a mixtilinear profile, decorated with cherub heads carved in relief and set against gilded backgrounds. The central piece features three children’s heads arranged on a central gilded field, whilst the two side corbels each display a single angelic face. The frames display sinuous Baroque forms with pronounced curves and counter-curves that enhance the ornamental effect of the set. The combination of gilding, carving and polychromy fully reflects the decorative language of the late Baroque, in which celestial motifs played an important symbolic and aesthetic role. The quality of the faces, with their soft features and serene expressions, lends dynamism and delicacy to these pieces, designed to be incorporated into altarpieces or religious decorations. Dimensions: 43 x 50 cm.
