Description
EXCEPTIONAL PAIR OF ROMANIST APOSTLES – ATTRIBUTED TO JUAN DE JUNI (Joigny, France, 1507 – Valladolid, 1577) In polychrome and gilded wood, dimensions: 65 x 23 x 20 cm. Possibly born in the French town of Joigny, to which his surname appears to refer, he settled in Spain around 1533, drawn by the significant artistic activity taking place in the Kingdom of Castile. Here he produced works of such high quality that, alongside Berruguete, he became a leading figure of Hispano-Flemish Mannerism. Similar works and bibliography: Martí y Monsó, José (1992). Historical-artistic studies relating primarily to Valladolid (2nd edition). Valladolid: Ámbito. ISBN 84-86770-74-2. Provenance: important private collection, Madrid.
