Description
Head of Athena – Chiurazzi Foundry. Inspired by Classical Greek art. 20th century Bronze cast using the lost-wax technique. Dimensions: 42 x 27 x 25 cm. This bust reproduces the celebrated Athena Lemnianus attributed to Phidias, depicting the goddess with a serene and balanced face, a focused gaze, and an expression of profound intellectual introspection. The composition is notable for the geometric purity of the features, the harmonious arrangement of the curls framing the face, and the elegant transition between head, neck and shoulders—elements that convey a sense of order, balance and ideal perfection. The absence of visible warrior attributes emphasises Athena’s reflective dimension as the embodiment of wisdom, strategic thinking and civic protection. The precise modelling of the forms, combined with the refined dark patina of the bronze, enhances the play of light and highlights the classical nobility of the representation. The technical quality of the casting demonstrates a remarkable mastery of the lost-wax process, enabling the faithful reproduction of the formal nuances of ancient models. Stylistically, the piece draws inspiration from classical Greek sculpture of the 5th century BC, a period in which Phidias developed an ideal of beauty based on proportion, serenity and formal perfection. This casting, produced by the prestigious Chiurazzi foundry, keeps alive one of the most admired images of Antiquity, known through Roman copies preserved in important archaeological collections. As a sculptural object, it constitutes a remarkable evocation of the aesthetic and intellectual values of the classical world, preserving intact the symbolic power of Athena as a universal emblem of reason, culture and the power of knowledge.
