Description
Allegorical sculpture. French School. 19th century
Patinated bronze on a marble base. A composition of three winged cherubs advancing in a dynamic formation, carrying flowers and gesturing with theatrical grace. The spiralling arrangement and the intense interplay of the arms create an effect of continuous movement and celebration, evoking mythological scenes or allegories of spring. The anatomical rendering, the facial expressions and the detailed modelling of the hair reveal the refined craftsmanship typical of nineteenth-century French academic art. The warm patina and the green marble base provide a sober visual counterpoint to the dynamism of the whole. The work forms part of the decorative sculptural tradition associated with bourgeois taste during the Second Empire. Dimensions: 64 × 50 × 40 cm.
