Description
Writing set comprising a quill pen and a letter opener. European School. 19th century
Silver, tortoiseshell and steel. The set comprises a pen nib with a turned tortoiseshell handle, a letter opener with a silver handle embossed with geometric and plant motifs, and a stamp eraser topped with a spherical tortoiseshell knob. The set, housed in its original case with a silk and velvet lining, exemplifies the refinement and elegance of nineteenth-century stationery, where a taste for ornamentation coexisted with functionality. The meticulous craftsmanship reveals precise attention to detail, with smooth transitions between fine materials. The restrained style, characteristic of the bourgeois aesthetic of the period, reflects the decorative sensibility of 19th-century European high society, in which everyday objects were also expressions of status and culture. Dimensions: 13 × 22 × 3 cm.
