Description
Pair of planters featuring Medusa heads. Inspired by Italian Neoclassicism. 21st century Moulded and modelled terracotta from Impruneta. Dimensions: 47 x 66 x 52 cm. A pair of large-format planters designed as ornamental cups on pedestals, decorated with an elaborate sculptural repertoire inspired by the classical Italian tradition. The containers feature a fluted body resting on a quadrangular base and a wide circular rim framed by a rope-like border, enriched with sinuous plant motifs running along the upper edge. Particularly noteworthy are the Medusa heads arranged as connecting elements between the cup and the handles, integrated into a composition of strong symbolic character that evokes the mythological iconography of the Greco-Roman world. The combination of scrolls, garlands and naturalistic forms lends visual dynamism and a rich surface texture, whilst the warm tone of the terracotta highlights the depth of the reliefs and the quality of the modelling. The craftsmanship reveals remarkable technical mastery in the reproduction of complex sculptural details, whilst maintaining the formal balance characteristic of the Italian ornamental tradition. Stylistically, the piece draws inspiration from Neoclassical and Renaissance designs intended for the decoration of gardens, villas and monumental architectural spaces, reinterpreted using contemporary artisanal manufacturing techniques. The prestigious terracotta from Impruneta, historically renowned for its durability and quality, enhances the decorative and functional value of the piece. These planters are a prime example of contemporary decorative arts, combining classical heritage, sculptural richness and architectural presence, lending remarkable elegance to both interior and exterior spaces.
