Description
Massive Spanish Gate, 17th century
Iron and wood. Dimensions: 191 x 84 cm; 257 x 182 x 130 cm. A large-scale gate constructed from vertical planks and lavishly decorated with star-headed iron nails arranged in a regular grid, which reinforces its austere and monumental character. It features a central wicket gate with a cut-out profile, a wrought-iron knocker, a barred peephole and prominent ironwork, as well as a coat of arms at the top that emphasises its connection to a noble or stately setting. The patina of the wood and iron, together with the signs of wear and tear from use, enhance its authenticity and historical value. Its typology and formal language evoke the Spanish tradition of the 17th century, where defensive function and ornamental richness are integrated into a piece of great visual impact.
