Description
Two-section sideboard with ivory marquetry, attributed to Ferdinando Pogliani. Italian school. 19th century Ebonised wood with high-relief ivory inlays. Dimensions: 216 x 120 x 50 cm. This magnificent two-section sideboard is conceived as a miniature architectural masterpiece, characterised by a complex symmetrical structure featuring doors, drawers, pilasters and finials inspired by Italian Renaissance and Neo-Renaissance models. The upper section is organised around three doors decorated with elaborate marquetry panels and central oval recesses, flanked by architectural elements and small balustrades that reinforce its monumental character. The lower section features drawers and cupboards adorned with a refined array of geometric and botanical ornamentation, executed with ivory inlays that contrast elegantly with the dark tone of the ebonised wood. The decorative richness is expressed through scrolls, arabesques, heraldic motifs and symmetrical compositions that demonstrate the extraordinary technical skill of the artistic cabinetmaker. The balanced proportions, precise lines and high-quality materials reflect the influence of the great Lombard workshops of the 19th century, which specialised in reinterpreting historical Italian models in a highly sophisticated historicist style. Attributed to Ferdinando Pogliani, a prominent Milanese cabinetmaker renowned for the excellence of his creations, the piece displays an exceptional combination of technical virtuosity, monumentality and ornamental richness. Its elaborate decoration, combined with the harmony of its proportions and the nobility of the materials used, makes it an outstanding piece of decorative art, destined for prestigious interiors and collections of historical furniture. Dimensions: 216 x 120 x 50 cm.
