Description
Pair of ducks, European School, 19th century
Patinated bronze. Dimensions: 21 x 18 x 30 cm. A group of animals comprising two reclining ducks, rendered with great attention to the texture of their plumage and the natural curve of their necks, which intertwine to create a compact and harmonious composition. The meticulous modelling of the feathers, wings and heads lends vibrancy to the piece, whilst the birds’ serene posture conveys a sense of tranquillity and balance. The uniform patina and decorative character of the group are reminiscent of small-scale animal sculptures intended for bourgeois interiors. The work belongs to the tradition of 19th-century European decorative sculpture.
