Biscuit porcelain relief. Signed Adriano Cecioni. Italian School. 19th century. Biscuit porcelain with applied enamel and gold moulding. The relief depicts a vibrant Bacchanalian scene in which a multitude of mythological and human figures intertwine in a festive procession. Fauns, satyrs and children dance, carry bunches of grapes and play instruments, whilst several nymphs advance crowned with laurels and flowers. The fluid arrangement of the figures, their theatrical gestures and exchanged glances create a lively and dynamic visual rhythm, accentuated by the matt whiteness of the biscuit porcelain, which highlights the interplay of light and shadow. The execution is notable for its meticulous attention to detail in the anatomical representation, the folds of the tunics, the vegetal texture and the festive expressions. The profusely ornamented frame complements the composition. The style evokes the Italian Neoclassical tradition with Mannerist echoes, in keeping with the historicist taste of the 19th century, which revived models from classical antiquity for decorative purposes. Signed by Adriano Cecioni and dated on the mould with ‘Firenze 1772’, indicating a historicist model possibly cast at a later date, linked to the Italian school of Florentine decorative production.
