309 Georges DORIGNAC (1879–1925) Bouquet of Flowers, circa 1902–1904 Oil on canvas, signed lower right 33 x 41 cm A few small areas of chipping and crazing on the surface, with no loss of paint. We would like to thank Ms Marie Claire Mansencal of the Dorignac Committee for confirming the authenticity and dating of this work. Painted in the early years of Dorignac’s career, this bouquet of flowers bears witness to his love of nature and his fascination with flowers, a passion developed in particular through his contact with his first teacher, Darío de Régoyos y Valdés. Between 1902 and 1906, the artist painted several bouquets in muted shades of beige, pink, red and orange, using a supple brushstroke that blurs the outlines and lends his compositions a certain uniformity. Set against a white tablecloth, this bouquet showcases a soft, fresh colour palette, appealing for the simplicity of its composition and the absence of stark contrasts, which lends it a sense of realism.
