Description
180 REGIONALISM – NORTH
A portable stereoscopic viewer and its collection of 84 plates offering views from the early 20th century, mainly in the Nord region, namely photographs of:
- Lille (the 1913 street market, with two plates, as well as the Jardin Vauban, Rue Faidherbe, the Porte de Paris, and a plate showing French soldiers marching on the Grand Place)
- Malo (family on the beach, caravans, the sea wall, the surrounding countryside)
- Phalempin (the forest, family walks)
- various urban scenes: fairground rides, a hot-air balloon festival, the tram passing by, races at the racecourse...
- numerous family portraits, from grandparents to children.
Some dated from 1912 to 1918 and located in Malo, Lille and Phalempin.
5 or 6 duplicate plates, 3 damaged plates and 2 slightly stained.
A fascinating amateur record of what life might have been like in the North at the dawn of the Great War, for a middle-class family who devoted their time
